One day, a boy was digging in his grandmother’s garden when he found a root that resembled a hairy big toe. The boy tried several times to pull it out, but it was stuck in the ground and would not move. So, he pulled with all his might until the root came off completely, it was at that moment that he heard a spectral moan and ran away.
The boy took the root home and showed it to his grandmother.
“This root looks delicious,” Grandma said, ignoring such a strange appearance.
So, he cut it into two pieces and put it in the soup.
At dinner time, the grandmother served the soup and put a piece of root in each plate. Then they washed the dishes, talked for a long time, and when it got dark they went to bed.
The boy fell asleep. But in the middle of the night, he was woken up by a very strange voice from his window:
“Where’s my hairy big toe?” said the voice between moans.
The boy was very scared, but he thought it was a product of his imagination.
Yet she heard the voice once more, this time sharper and closer.
“Where’s my hairy big toe?” said the voice between moans.
The boy closed his eyes and thought: “This is a bad dream, tomorrow I will wake up and everything will be over”.
But soon he heard the sound of the door of the house opening and the voice again say between moans:
“Where’s my hairy big toe?”
Then the boy heard footsteps in the kitchen, living room, dining room, and even in the bathroom. The footsteps got closer and closer until they reached the corridor. Now they were in front of his door!
“Where’s my hairy big toe?” said the voice between moans.
The boy watched in horror as the door to his room opened. Shivering with fear, she pulled the blankets over her head and listened as footsteps moved slowly through the darkness toward her bed.
Then they stopped.
“Where’s my hairy big toe?” The voice moaned loudly. YOU HAVE IT?
To this day, no one in the village ever heard from the boy and his grandmother
