Gula is from the Akkadian/Sumerian Gula (the great one). 1400 BCE) is one of the longest preserved Mesopotamian theological hymns and a document of ancient medical religious practice; her cult predated and influenced subsequent healing deities including the Greek Asclepius and the Roman Aesculapius.
