Josefina is the Spanish form of Josephine — feminine of Joseph, from the Hebrew Yosef (he will add, God will increase). Josefina Montoya — American Girl doll character released in 1997, set in 1824 New Mexico; the line's first non-anglophone-heritage doll; her books and accessories sold millions of copies and made her one of the most-influential characters in the American Girl franchise's history; the doll line was acquired by Mattel in 1998.
Josefina does not currently appear in the US Social Security Administration's top 1,000 girls' names, so we don't publish a US rank or birth count for it. That says nothing about the name's standing elsewhere in the world — only that it sits outside the ranked US data we rely on.
In Pythagorean numerology the letters of Josefina reduce to 7, The Seeker. This is a traditional interpretive system, not a factual claim about the name.
