Nephthys (Greek Νέφθυς, from Egyptian Nbt-ḥwt, "Lady of the House") was the Egyptian goddess of mourning, the dead, and the protection of canopic jars. Sister of Isis, Osiris, and Set; wife of Set; mother of Anubis. With Isis, she mourned Osiris's death and helped reassemble his body — together depicted at the head and foot of every royal sarcophagus as the eternal mourners. One of the four protective goddesses guarding Tutankhamun's gilded canopic shrine with outstretched wings.
