The rhythms of learning in the classroom

Traditional education is gradually becoming obsolete due to the lack of active involvement in learning that students should do. In traditional education, teachers only expected that with discipline and rectitude, students would learn the knowledge that they instilled in them in a passive way (listening, sitting and being silent for long and endless hours). Children who deviated from this rule were a nuisance to the classroom and were sometimes removed from it so as not to distort the normal pace of learning for their classmates.

Many parents thought that if their child distorted in class because he was bored or because he did not like the way of teaching, the problem was the child because he did not he knew how to keep the forms or respect the teacher. But from my perspective, that child needed a different learning style that no one took into account… so it was the teacher who did not respect the educational needs of the student.

Adapt to the children

The school teacher often thinks that the children must adapt to him, to his way of teaching and that the little one must obey in everything he is told. This is not the case, obeying is outside of any teaching… children need to be motivated to be able to learn and with obedience there is no type of motivation.

The teacher , which should be by vocation, should be the one that adapts to the needs and characteristics of your group /class, taking into account the personal and individual needs of each of them. Because only by knowing your students will you be able to know what type of teaching is the most appropriate in your class. And of course, I can assure you that a class where the teacher explains, the students are silent and the teacher gives homework to correct later… it is not an adequate teaching model.

Rhythms of learning at school

Children need to be the protagonists of their learning

Children, from the moment they begin to explore the environment, should already be the protagonists of their learning. They must be at all times agent they are active both at home and at school in what they learn, because in this way they will be able to interact directly with learning and realize that exploration, curiosity and motivation are the best tools to discover and learn anything .

Respect the different rhythms and learning styles

It is essential that both teachers and parents respect the learning style and rhythm of a boy or girl. No child is the same as another and the same cannot be demanded of all. The abilities of the students can be very different from each other and it must be taken into account to respect it and that the children do not unfairly fall into the frustration of their possibilities for having been treated in an inadequate way and without having been respected in terms of their learning pace.

Problems develop when teachers and students do not coincide in the way of teaching and in the way of learning. In this sense , there are children who think that there are better teachers than others, but this lies in the teacher’s ability to give more opportunities to those who really need it or in understanding and respecting individual needs.

In case the individual and educational needs of children are not respected both at home and at school, it is likely that the child, in addition to feeling invaded, feels that he is not capable of achieving things, that he is inferior to the rest of his classmates and because of everything or this they feel great frustration that will prevent them from moving forward… and these are totally avoidable things respecting their style and pace of learning.
