Goddess Annapoorna is the Hindu goddess of food and nourishment, a form of Parvati — central to the Annapoorna Stotra composed by Adi Shankaracharya (c. 8th century CE). Annapoorna Devi (Roshanara Khan, 1927-2018) was an Indian Hindustani classical surbahar and sitar player — daughter and disciple of Ustad Allauddin Khan (1862-1972) of the Maihar gharana, sister of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan (sarod legend). Married Pandit Ravi Shankar (1920-2012) in 1941. Her decision to retire from public performance in the 1950s is widely discussed in Hindustani classical music history.
