Astrid comes from the Old Norse Ástríðr — composed of áss (god, deity, referring to the Norse gods or Æsir) and fríðr (beautiful, fair) — meaning "divinely beautiful" or "loved by the gods."
Astrid has been continuously used in Scandinavia for over a thousand years and was carried by several medieval Norwegian and Swedish queens. The Swedish author Astrid Lindgren (creator of Pippi Longstocking) made the name internationally famous. Today it sits in the U.S. top 350 and is rising fast.
Astrid reduces to one — the number of bright independence.
