Galswintha combines the Old German gail (song) and swind (strong). Galswintha (c. 540-568) was the Visigothic princess (sister of Brunhilda) sent to marry Chilperic I of the Franks — murdered by her husband at the instigation of his mistress Fredegund, triggering the bloody Frankish civil war that consumed two generations.
