Hwang Jini (黃眞伊, c. 1506-c. 1567) was the most famous gisaeng (courtesan-artist) of the Joseon dynasty — celebrated for her beauty, intelligence, calligraphy, music, and sijo poetry (the classical Korean short verse). Her surviving sijo are among the finest works in Korean literature, and her wit was said to have humbled the greatest scholars of her age.
