Iole (Ἰόλη) is the Greek word for "violet." The princess of Oechalia and the late love of Heracles — her father King Eurytus refused to give her in marriage, leading to the chain of events that ended in Heracles's death.
Featured in Sophocles' Trachiniae and Ovid's Metamorphoses.
Iole reduces to nine — the number of Greek violet.
