Mirabel comes from the Latin mirabilis, meaning "wonderful," "marvellous," or "worthy of being looked at." The same root gives the English "mirror" and "miracle."
Mirabel has been used since the medieval period but rose dramatically in popularity after the 2021 Disney film Encanto made Mirabel Madrigal the heroine. Today it sits in the U.S. top 700 and is rising fast. The Madrigal family's youngest, who has no magical gift but holds the family together.
Mirabel does not currently appear in the US Social Security Administration's top 1,000 girls' names, so we don't publish a US rank or birth count for it. That says nothing about the name's standing elsewhere in the world — only that it sits outside the ranked US data we rely on.
In Pythagorean numerology the letters of Mirabel reduce to 6, The Nurturer. This is a traditional interpretive system, not a factual claim about the name.
