Patti is a diminutive of Patricia. Patti Smith (born 1946) is the American singer-poet known as the godmother of punk rock. *Her 1975 debut album Horses — opening with "Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine" — is widely considered one of the most influential debut albums in rock history. Her memoir Just Kids (2010) — about her friendship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe — won the National Book Award for Nonfiction.*
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2007).
Patti does not currently appear in the US Social Security Administration's top 1,000 girls' names, so we don't publish a US rank or birth count for it. That says nothing about the name's standing elsewhere in the world — only that it sits outside the ranked US data we rely on.
In Pythagorean numerology the letters of Patti reduce to 3, The Communicator. This is a traditional interpretive system, not a factual claim about the name.
