Sirimavo combines the Sinhala siri (auspicious) and the mavo honorific. Sirimavo Bandaranaike (1916-2000) became Prime Minister of Ceylon (Sri Lanka) in July 1960 — making her the world's first elected female head of government in history. She served three terms as Prime Minister (1960-65, 1970-77, 1994-2000) and led the Non-Aligned Movement. Her daughter Chandrika Kumaratunga later became Sri Lanka's first female President.
Honored on Sri Lankan currency.
Sirimavo does not currently appear in the US Social Security Administration's top 1,000 girls' names, so we don't publish a US rank or birth count for it. That says nothing about the name's standing elsewhere in the world — only that it sits outside the ranked US data we rely on.
In Pythagorean numerology the letters of Sirimavo reduce to 7, The Seeker. This is a traditional interpretive system, not a factual claim about the name.
