Susanna (שׁוֹשַׁנָּה Shoshannah) comes from the Hebrew word for "lily" or possibly "rose." The Susanna of the Book of Daniel (the apocryphal additions) was wrongly accused by lecherous elders and saved by the prophet Daniel's wisdom.
Susanna was the 17th most popular U.S. girls' name in the 19th century. Today the variant Susan has declined while Susanna is rising again as part of the broader vintage revival.
Susanna does not currently appear in the US Social Security Administration's top 1,000 girls' names, so we don't publish a US rank or birth count for it. That says nothing about the name's standing elsewhere in the world — only that it sits outside the ranked US data we rely on.
In Pythagorean numerology the letters of Susanna reduce to 8, The Visionary. This is a traditional interpretive system, not a factual claim about the name.
