Tulsi (तुलसी) is the Sanskrit name for Ocimum tenuiflorum — holy basil, the most sacred plant in Hinduism, considered an earthly form of the goddess Lakshmi (consort of Vishnu). Used in Ayurvedic medicine for over 3,000 years; modern research has shown it has adaptogenic and anti-inflammatory properties. Tulsidas (c. 1532-1623) was the male Sanskrit poet who composed the Ramcharitmanas.
