Urvashi (उर्वशी) means "she who controls the heart." The most beautiful of all the apsaras (celestial nymphs) of Hindu mythology — born from the thigh of the sage Narayana. Her love affair with the mortal king Pururavas — the founding myth of the Lunar Dynasty — appears in the Rig Veda, the Shatapatha Brahmana, and Kalidasa's masterpiece play Vikramorvashiyam.
