Vera has two parallel origins. In Russian and other Slavic languages, Vera (Вера) means "faith" — one of the three theological virtues (Faith, Hope, Charity), often given as triplet names. In Latin, vera means "true," the feminine of verus.
Vera was popular in the early 20th century in the English-speaking world, faded for decades, and has returned strongly in the 2010s. Today it sits in the U.S.
Vera does not currently appear in the US Social Security Administration's top 1,000 girls' names, so we don't publish a US rank or birth count for it. That says nothing about the name's standing elsewhere in the world — only that it sits outside the ranked US data we rely on.
In Pythagorean numerology the letters of Vera reduce to 1, The Leader. This is a traditional interpretive system, not a factual claim about the name.
