Wren is the English name of the small, dark-brown songbird famous for its disproportionately loud voice. In British folklore the wren was the "king of the birds," said to have outwitted the eagle in a contest to fly the highest.
Wren has been used as a girl's name only since the 2010s. It entered the U.S. top 1000 in 2013 and is rising rapidly. Short, sharp, and part of the broader wave of nature and animal names favoured by contemporary parents (Wren, Lark, Sparrow, Fern, Ivy).
Wren reduces to nine — the number of compassion and quiet largeness of spirit.
