Anacaona combines the Taíno words ana (flower) and caona (gold) — meaning "golden flower." Queen Anacaona (1474-1504) was the Taíno cacica (chief) of Xaragua, the Hispaniola region. She was hanged by the Spanish at age 29.
Anacaona is rare but rising as Caribbean Indigenous heritage is honored.
Anacaona reduces to seven — the number of Taíno sovereignty.
