Beatrice comes from the Late Latin Beatrix, derived from beatus ("blessed") — meaning "she who brings happiness" or "the bringer of joy." The Italian form is Beatrice, the original Latin is Beatrix.
Beatrice has been borne by saints, by Dante's idealised beloved in The Divine Comedy (where Beatrice guides the poet through Paradise), and by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. Princess Beatrice of York is a modern royal Beatrice. Today the name sits in the U.S. top 250 and is rising — a long classical name returning to use.
Beatrice reduces to eight — the number of strength, dignity, and natural leadership.
