Eadflæd combines the Old English ead (wealth, blessedness) and flǣd (beauty). Eadflæd (early 10th c.) was the daughter of King Edward the Elder of Wessex and granddaughter of Alfred the Great. She was sent as a young nun to Wilton Abbey to live the religious life.

Eadflæd reduces to two — the number of Wessex princess.
