Once upon a time there was a boy named Jack who lived with his mother on a humble farm. They were very poor and the only thing they had was a skinny cow.

One day Jack’s mom called him and said:

— Take the little cow to town and with the money they pay you for it we will buy food. Make sure you get a good price.

Jack left immediately. On the way, an old man with a good-natured and cheerful appearance greeted him and said:

“Hello little friend, where are you going?”

Jack replied:

—I’m going to town to sell my little cow to buy food.

—Don’t worry little friend, I’ll keep the cow and I promise to take good care of her. In exchange, I will give you these three magic beans, they will bring you an enormous fortune —said the old man.

Arriving home, Jack greeted his mom with a hug and a huge smile.

—Look mom, I left the cow with a very good man and in return he gave me these magic beans.

“How could you trade the only thing we have for a few beans?” said his mom. Very angry, she threw the beans out the window. Jack was very sad and went to sleep without dinner.

When Jack woke up the next morning, he discovered through the window, a huge stalk that had sprouted from his magic beans. Out of curiosity, Jack climbed the stem until he reached a kingdom in the sky. Out of nowhere, a little blue fairy appeared and said:

—That castle you see in the distance belonged to a knight and his family. Now a very evil giant lives in it. Jack, you need to know that your mother is the gentleman’s wife and you are his son. Be brave and take back what belongs to you.

Saying so, the fairy disappeared. Jack continued on his way to the castle. Finding the doors ajar, he entered unannounced. Instantly, he bumped into the giant’s wife and said:

“Ma’am, can you please give me something to eat and drink? I’m very hungry.”

The noblewoman gave him a piece of bread and a glass of milk. As he ate, the giant entered.

The giant looked horrifying. Jack was terrified and jumped into the cupboard.

The giant exclaimed:

“Fi-fa-fo-fum!” I smell the scent of an English boy.

“There is no child here!” said the giant’s wife.

Without questioning his wife, the giant retired to his room. He pulled out a bag of gold coins from under the bed, counted them, and set them aside. Then he took a nap. Jack slipped out of hiding, stuffed a handful of coins into his pockets, and fled the castle.

At home, he gave the coins to his mother. They both lived happily and comfortably for some time.

When the coins ran out, Jack climbed back up the stalk toward the giant’s castle. As before, he met the giant’s wife, she fed him and the giant appeared while he was eating. Once again, Jack ended up hiding in the cupboard. It was then that the giant exclaimed:

“Fi-fa-fo-fum!” I smell the scent of an English boy.

“There is no child here!” said the giant’s wife.

A little hesitant, the giant went to his room to take a nap, but before leaving, he asked his wife to bring him the hen and the harp. The wife returned with a caged hen and a magic harp that could play the most beautiful melodies.

The harp played happy music, but Jack was sad to see the poor caged hen. While the giant slept, Jack took the hen and the harp. Suddenly the harp cried out:

“Master, a child is stealing from me!”

The giant woke up and saw Jack with his two precious treasures. Furious, he ran after him. Jack climbed down the stem with the harp and the hen in tow. Upon touching land he called his mother:

“Mama, mama bring the axe.”

His mom brought the ax and Jack felled the stem.

CATAPLUN!

The giant fell so hard that it ended up on the other side of the world.

The next day, Jack and his mom woke up in amazement to learn that the goose was laying golden eggs. The little hen was so happy that she left thousands of golden eggs scattered all over the house! The beautiful music of the harp kept them cheerful… and they all lived happily ever after.
